Maintenance of sales tables

How do you keep the aquatic plants on your shop floor fresh and neat for a long time?

Of course, the aquatic plants on your sales tables need some maintenance. But perhaps less than you expect. Here are some tips.

Limited watering for less maintenance

Water the aquatic plants on a limited basis by filling the sales table with water once or twice a week. Give the water plants a night to soak up the water. Then open the drain valve to drain away the remaining water. The frequency of watering depends on the temperature and the amount of light, but the plants may well be dry for a few days.

In fact, by limiting watering, plants grow at a slower rate, reducing maintenance. With dry plants, the tables, pots and baskets stay cleaner, and no algae deposits develop. This benefits the overall presentation and your customers will therefore not have to take wet plants home.

Pruning

Depending on the type of aquatic plant, plants in the narrow 9 cm (P9) pots sometimes become too long. This can cause plants to fall over or hang over other plants, disturbing the presentation. It is therefore advisable to prune water plants back, but no more than 1/3 of the plant. A 60 cm high plant can thus be pruned back to 40 cm. This will make the presentation look neat again. Usually, aquatic plants in P9 pots are chosen on the label and not because they are visually attractive at the time of purchase.

Water lilies

Our water lilies are delivered in waterproof containers and sold from there. A water lily must absolutely not dry out and must therefore always stand in water. For this purpose, fill the lily container in spring up to the edge of the basket or pot. This way, your customer can clearly see what is being bought. In summer, however, water lilies should be well protected from the sun. Therefore, fill the container to the rim at that time. Water lilies like this, although it makes the whole plant less visible.

Nutrient bags

To maintain the fresh colour of the aquatic plants even in summer without additional stimulation of growth, we can provide special aquatic plant food as a service with the sales tables. Just dissolve the nutrient bag in a bucket of water and spread it all over the table during watering. For optimal results, repeat the process every 2 weeks. This feed is only suitable for tables with aquatic plants, marsh plants, waterside plants and oxygen plants.
