Ronald Moerings Foundation
After seeing an episode of a TV programme of which the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital was the subject, Ronald became interested and set up a direct arrangement with the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek foundation. At his initiative, starting in 2014, he and a few other businessmen started making annual contributions to the research at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek/ Dutch Cancer Institute. Ronald intended to continuously expand the club by having each of the contributing companies recruit one more company each year, convincing them to join in, thus increasing the size of the group. After Ronald’s unexpected death, the group decided that it was very important that his initiative should be continued, and that is why they named the group after him.
Why the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek?
The partners in the Ronald Moerings foundation want to contribute to the ambition of this top institute; to provide customised treatment for every single cancer patient. The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek has gained the knowledge and the technology to provide treatments that fight the specific tumour of each patient individually. For now, they can do this on a small scale, but the aim is to provide every patient with a custom treatment; “bespoke cancer therapy”. To achieve this, more research is urgently needed.
